Soundcheck: Mental Health in The Canadian Music Industry

The Soundcheck study is now complete.

Soundcheck was a year-long national research effort examining mental health across the Canadian music ecosystem. Launched in September 2024, it remains the first study of its kind to explore mental health across all roles in the Canadian music industry.

The final dataset integrates findings from:

• a national anonymous survey,
• facilitated focus groups,
• one-to-one interviews, and
• extensive field observations.

All contributions were confidential and anonymized, enabling candid insight into lived experience across artists, crew, managers, agents, employees, and leaders nationwide.

We extend sincere thanks to the more than 1,250 music professionals who participated, and to the artists, crew members, managers, agents, employees, community leaders, fellow researchers, and media partners who helped amplify the initial survey across Canada.
